Throughout life it is evidently common for most of us to become acclimatised to expecting a standard flow of transactions. We deposit study/education and we withdraw a successful career. We deposit love and we withdraw our lifelong soulmate. We deposit…..We withdraw……We deposit…We withdraw.
We take advantage of taming these things or people around us to acquire what we want…..or need (depending on who we are trying to convince).
The interesting thing is that these transactions are not always balanced; to say the least, a lot of us are fully acquainted with not getting out what we invested. In light of these inbalances or not, expentancy in our relationship with “time” can remain quite high. We put things off, we assume that tomorrow will always arrive, we allow ourselves to get caught up in things that do not deserve “time”. Funnily enough, there are times when irrespective of what we deposit, we still expect a payment of time.
We are reminded in the book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 9 that the transactions in life are not always so balanced; that the race is not always won by the fastest, nor is the battle always won by the strongest; Nor is food always plentiful for the wise, or riches in abundance for men of intelligence; Nor does favor always follow men of skill. But there is one thing that will remain independent of these transactional discrepancies. And that is Time!…….Time and chance……they BOTH happen to us all…..and of the two, it is observably true that time can neither be bribed or manipulated.
Time, as hard as we may try, cannot be tamed. Time will simply NOT be leashed and ordered to “fetch” or “sit!”. Equally, we do not always withdraw from life what we think our deposits have accumulated or deserve.
Therefore, we should never EVER get it twisted and think that because we are strong, or fast, or rich, or wise, intelligent, or skilled, that “time” will obey us……or somehow wait around for us….For who has time ever obeyed?
Time waits for no man! We are all in submission.
So I ask……Are you happy with how you are spending your time?
If our lives were a bank account and time was money, would we be in credit or debit against the transactions of our activities?
So often I find myself chasing time, wrestling with it as though there is some sort of negotiation that can be reached. How exhausting!! How time wasting……
I am slowly starting to accept the fact that time does not compromise. Nor does it negotiate. I must play by its rules. Therefore seeking an alternative relationship with it. One of harmony, of peace, of synchronization. Realising that each present moment that time allows is just as precious as those moments I plan for, but am not yet in receipt of.
One thing that does remain true is, time was also created. Time has a keeper! And He waits….but we should not expect this “waiting” to last forever…..
Each moment should be seized. Felt. Embraced.
Perhaps time is not what we should be seeking peace with. Perhaps our peace should be with the One who exists outside of it.
So….go ahead and live your best life! Because when it’s all said and done, whether rich or poor, doctor or athlete, young or old, time is given without condition.
So live….Live well with time x
