The Game of Life

I’ve heard that chess is more than just a game.
I’ve heard that music is more than just a collaboration of instruments, of voices.
I’ve even heard that marriage is more than just a certification of lifelong union, love and commitment between lovers;
That being a mother is more than just having bore a child;
That life is more than just the air we breathe, more than just the flesh and blood that clothe us;
That language is more than just spoken word;
That love is more than just a feeling;
That wisdom is more than just knowledge;
That wealth is more than just monetary status

But if these things are true, then where is the evidence?
Because I’ve also heard that family are more than just those connected by DNA;
That time is more than just the measure between one moment and another;
More than just a period or duration within which actions or things “happen”;
That dreams are more than just a series of meaningless thoughts, images and emotions that occur during sleep;
That vision is more than just the ability to see through a pair of eyes;
That a home is more than just four walls and a roof;
That church Is more than just a building;
That intellect is more than just being literate;
That beauty is more than just outward appearance;
That race is more than just a man’s skin colour;
That sexuality is more than just the representation of gender based attraction;
That hunger is more than just the need for food;
That the human heart is more than just a physical organ that stops beating when life ends;

But again, if these things are true, then where is the evidence? If there is any truth in what we “think” we’ve heard, in what we “think” we’ve learnt, then why is it we still operate within labels, and descriptions that hold no truth at all?!?

Why is it that we say what we do not mean, accept what we do not believe and do what we would rather not do?

Can one declare a broken heart, whilst possessing a heart that still beats?
Can one claim to be thirsty, having just consumed a few glasses of water?
Are the homeless amongst us truly the richest?

Evidence appears to suggest that perhaps life has become a game of chess?
That “grey” has become more comforting to the masses?

Perhaps this game of chess is our only hope…
